Lugas is a desktop app for speaking practice, made by Anas (Panduan Coding) in Indonesia. This page covers the app and this website (lugas.pages.dev).
The short version
- Your recordings, transcripts, reports, and progress stay on your computer.
- A take leaves your computer only when you choose to analyze it. It goes through your own OpenRouter account to the AI model you picked.
- Lugas has no server. We never receive your recordings, your results, or your API key.
- The app has no analytics, no tracking, and no crash reporting.
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address to send you one email when Lugas launches.
The app
What stays on your computer
Lugas stores everything in its data folder on your computer:
- macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Lugas - Windows:
%APPDATA%\Lugas - Linux:
~/.config/Lugas
That folder holds your recordings, the audio and still frames Lugas prepares from them, a local database (your reports, history, topics, and settings), your encrypted API key, and the app’s log files. You can open it from Settings → Storage → Open data folder.
Recording a take and preparing it (converting the audio, finding pauses, picking still frames from a video) all happen on your computer. Nothing is sent while you record.
What leaves your computer when you analyze a take
When you click to analyze a take, Lugas sends one request to OpenRouter, using your OpenRouter key. OpenRouter passes it to the company that runs the model you chose (for example, Google for a Gemini model). The request contains:
- The recording. For an audio take, the audio. For a video take, either the video file or the audio plus up to 24 still frames, depending on what your model accepts. If your model can’t take audio, the audio goes to a speech-to-text model first, and your model gets only the transcript.
- Context for the coaching: your display name (if you set one), what you’re practicing for (YouTube, interviews, and so on), the topic title, your language setting, your filler-word list, the take’s length, and the times of long pauses Lugas found.
Eye contact, framing, lighting, and energy are judged by the AI model from the video or frames you send. Lugas does not analyze your face on your computer.
If you turn on Accurate filler mode, the audio is also sent, through OpenRouter, to a speech-to-text model, and the resulting transcript goes to the main model with the request.
The answer (transcript, filler words, scores, tips) comes back to your computer and is saved there.
Requests to OpenRouter identify the app as “Lugas”. They don’t include your name, email, or any ID from Lugas, beyond the display name in the prompt if you set one.
OpenRouter and model providers
You use your own OpenRouter account, so OpenRouter’s terms and privacy policy apply to what you send, and so do the policies of the model’s provider. We don’t control how they handle or keep data. You can read OpenRouter’s policies at openrouter.ai.
To limit this, turn on Only use providers that don’t keep data in Settings → AI provider and models (it’s also offered during setup). Lugas then asks OpenRouter to send your takes only to providers with a zero data retention policy. Fewer models work with it on.
Other times the app goes online
The app can only connect to OpenRouter. Its network code blocks every other address. It contacts OpenRouter to:
- Download the public list of models (when the app starts, at most once a day). Your key isn’t sent.
- Check that your key works, and read your remaining credit, using your key.
- Get a key when you choose Connect OpenRouter. Your browser opens OpenRouter’s sign-in page, and OpenRouter hands the new key back to Lugas on your computer.
Links in the app (to this website, OpenRouter, or Gumroad) open in your web browser.
The app does not check for updates.
Your OpenRouter key
Your key is encrypted with your system’s secure storage (the macOS Keychain, Windows DPAPI, or the Linux keyring) and saved in the data folder. It is only decrypted for a request to OpenRouter. It is never written to the logs, never included in backups or diagnostics, and never shown in full again after you save it.
On Linux without a keyring, Lugas warns you and offers Forget the key when Lugas quits, which keeps the key in memory only.
Removing the key in Lugas (Settings → AI provider and models → Remove key) deletes it from your computer. It doesn’t cancel the key on OpenRouter. To do that, delete it at openrouter.ai/settings/keys.
Camera and microphone
Lugas uses your microphone when you record, and your camera only for video takes. Your operating system asks for permission first. Recordings are saved to the data folder. Lugas can’t use your screen, location, or other devices.
No analytics or tracking
The app has no analytics, telemetry, ads, or crash reporting. It doesn’t send usage data anywhere.
Logs and diagnostics
Lugas writes a log file in its data folder to help fix problems. It records events and errors, such as which model ran and what failed. API keys and license keys are removed before anything is written.
The log never leaves your computer on its own. If you need help, you can choose Export diagnostics (in Settings → About). This saves a folder where you choose, containing:
- the log files (with keys removed again)
- app, Electron, and system versions, and which secure storage your key uses
- your settings, without your display name or device IDs
- how far you got through setup
- counts, such as takes analyzed, models used, and error codes
It does not contain recordings, transcripts, notes, take titles, topics, or keys. It is only shared if you send it to us yourself.
Backups
Settings → Storage → Export saves a backup folder where you choose. It includes your database and, if you leave Include recordings on, your recordings. It never includes your API key. The backup is yours. Keep it somewhere safe, since it holds your takes and transcripts.
Deleting your data
- One take: choose Delete take in History or on the take. This removes the recording, its prepared audio and frames, and its reports.
- Your key: Settings → AI provider and models → Remove key.
- Everything: quit Lugas and delete its data folder (paths above). Uninstalling the app doesn’t delete this folder on its own. On macOS you can also delete the “Lugas Safe Storage” item in Keychain Access.
Anything you already sent to OpenRouter is covered by their policies, not ours.
Licenses (when sales start)
Lugas is in private beta and doesn’t check licenses yet. When it goes on sale through Gumroad, the app will send your license key to Gumroad to check it. We’ll update this page before that happens. Gumroad’s own privacy policy covers your purchase.

Hosting
This site is static and hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes standard request data, such as your IP address, to serve the pages. The waitlist form posts to this site, which passes your email on to the waitlist database described below. The site sets no cookies, loads no third-party scripts or fonts, and runs no analytics.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we receive:
- your email address
- a short tag that says which form on this site you used (for example, “website-hero”)
- the time you signed up
These are stored in a database we run on Cloudflare (Workers and D1). When you sign up, we also get a notification in a private Discord channel with your email, the tag, and your country, which Cloudflare works out from your connection.
We use your email for one thing: one email when Lugas launches, sent through Postmark. No newsletter.
